Tourist Information Service to move to Tiverton Museum

Posted on: 5 August 2013

At a meeting of the Cabinet on the 1st August, Mid Devon District Councillors approved that Tiverton Museum will be the contractor for the provision of a Tourist Information Service from the 1st October 2013.

This means that from this date the Tourist Information Service will no longer be available at the Tourist Information Centre (TIC), in Phoenix Lane and will move to the Tiverton Museum in Beck Square.

Councillor Bob Deed, who is the Cabinet Member for Community Well Being, said “I am delighted that we (MDDC) have honoured our undertaking to the people of Tiverton (and District) to ensure the continuation of a Tourist Information Service to serve the residents and visitors to the area.  I am grateful to all those people who expressed their interest in bidding to provide the Service.  All bids were seriously considered and offered a range of solutions, all situated adjacent to the centre of the Town.  My thanks go to those who unsuccessfully bid, for their interest and especially to the Tourist Information Centre team for providing the service over so many years”.

Andrea Rowe, Chairman of the Museum Trust, says: “We are delighted to be able to offer the town continuing tourist information services. We will try and offer the same sorts of services as the former TIC and thank them for all the support they have given tourists, citizens, attractions and local organisations over the last few years”.

Head of Communities & Governance, Amy Tregellas said “the Council will be working closely with the Museum to ensure that they seamlessly continue the service currently provided by the TIC and to build on it for the future.”
