Following the competition held ahead of Mothers’ Day 2019 by Tiverton Town Centre Partnership and the Pannier Market, Tiverton has now selected its ‘Mum in a Million’.

A panel of judges chaired by the Mayor of Tiverton, Cllr Janet Rendle, spent two hours considering each of the nominations received before deciding on a winner most deserving of being crowned ‘Tiverton’s Mum in a Million’.

The winning candidate was finally revealed during an award ceremony held at Tiverton’s Pannier Market on Saturday 30th March, the day before Mothering Sunday. The winner of the first Tiverton’s ‘Mum in a Million’ was announced as Lisa Cassap who had been nominated by her 14 year old daughter, Jasmine, for being a ‘special and loving mum’. Jasmine said:

“She needs time for herself, something she never seems to get as she’s so busy helping with family and others. My Mum is the best and I would never change her. I love her from the bottom of my heart.”

2. L – R: runner-up Shirley Fagg, winner Lisa Cassap, runner-up Barbara Broom and the Mayor, Cllr Janet Rendle (Julie Lynch was unable to attend the presentation ceremony)The runners up were named as Barbara broom, Julie Lynch and Shirley Fagg.

Town Centre and Market Manager Alan Ottey said:

“The panellists had a very difficult job choosing. Some truly heartfelt nominations were received describing stories of mothers who had been through various forms of cancer but never stopped caring for their family, others who looked after severely disabled family members and of course those who were just so highly thought of by their family.

“With so many wonderful nominations, it was decided that three runners up would be allowed and thanks to the generosity of the businesses in the town and the market, we were able to award certificates and prizes to each of them. I’d like to say a big thank you to them, as well as all the applicants for submitting their nominations.

“This event shows how our local community recognises the importance and value of family and explains why Tiverton is such a great place to live and trade. We hope to make ‘Tiverton’s Mum in a Million’ an annual event to celebrate the town’s appreciation for the wonderful mothers in our community.”
