Tiverton Market to host Wales & West heat of 2017 British Street Food Competition

Posted on: 28 March 2017

‘British Street Food’ is coming to Tiverton on Sunday 21 May, with the renowned competition: The British Street Food Awards.

The British Street Food Awards is the toughest street food competition in the world. There are five regional heats, culminating in a live national cook-off, judged by the general public and Michelin-starred chefs. Plus, new for 2017, the British winners will head off to Berlin to represent their country against the very best of Europe.

Tiverton Pannier Market will be hosting the Wales & West heat on Sunday 21 May as part of an Artisan Food Festival in support of the National Love Your Local Market Campaign.  The Food Festival will run from 10am to 4pm and feature a Farmers’ Market alongside 20+ street food competitors.  Local musicians and entertainers will be performing at various times throughout the event.

Richard Chesterton, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said “Tiverton is honoured to host the Wales & West heat of these awards.  We look forward to welcoming visitors from across the South West to Mid Devon and showcasing the exceptional food talent our area has to offer.  Tiverton Market is famous for its multi award-winning street food event, Electric Nights Streetfood and now we have the opportunity to expand with a daytime Food Festival and Farmers’ Market celebrating a wider range of culinary skills”.

The Food Festival will be sponsored by Electric Nights Streetfood, which returns to Tiverton Market for another season of monthly events on Saturday 6 May, featuring live music from local artists Lucky13 and Joey.
