Response to unacceptable refuse situation in Bakers Mews/Fore Street area of Cullompton

The Council has been contacted by a number of concerned residents and business owners in Cullompton who are quite rightly exasperated by the volume of refuse along Bakers Mews and along Fore Street.

As of this morning (Monday 29th April), all the rubbish has been removed by our Street Scene team and our staff have spoken to a number of people who work in the vicinity and have been badly affected by this issue. We appreciate this is a short term fix but we are actively working with the landlord and tenants in the area to try and avoid a repeat of this situation. We have full sympathy for those affected by this unacceptable situation and are working hard to find a long term solution.

Mid Devon Chief Executive, Stephen Walford, said:

“Unfortunately we are dealing with the antisocial behaviour of a small minority, and are currently exploring all avenues with local tenants and landlords so that if further education and reminders fail we can move swiftly to enforcement. Our Public Health and Street Scene teams will be working together to combat this ongoing issue and we would encourage anyone to report further issues.”
