Plastic fantastic is here

June sees the introduction of mixed plastic and cardboard to Mid Devon District Council’s kerbside recycling service.

Householders across Mid Devon will shortly receive a postcard, which will inform them of the changes to be introduced. This will be followed by delivery of a new green box for their cardboard and an updated leaflet indicating what goes where. Please wait for receipt of the box and leaflet before starting to put any plastic out for kerbside collection.

Cllr Neal Davey, Cabinet member for Street Scene says: “The long awaited introduction of mixed plastics to Mid Devon’s collection will have a positive impact on the environment and will reduce landfill charges, helping to keep your council tax down.”

Why a new green box?

By separating your cardboard and cartons into a different colour box, this will help the crews to do their job quickly and safely; keeping operational costs down.
Mixed plastics can be placed in the original black boxes. The only thing we can’t take is film, but we want your tubs, pots, trays and bottles. Plastic takes up a lot of room so please remember to rinse, squeeze and squash it. You will be amazed at how much you can stop going to landfill by recycling your plastic.

Council Waste & Recycling officers will also be at the Mid Devon Show on Saturday 25 July, where they will be on hand to give you tips and help on recycling your waste. We look forward to seeing you there.
