Mid Devon’s new Tourist Information Service is open for business

Posted on: 6 November 2013

Mid Devon’s new Tourist Information Service opened at Tiverton Museum on 1 October.  Two, new enthusiastic Visitor Information Officers have been taken on and have been busy helping members of the public since the opening. The Museum has ensured that the service was able to sell coach tickets from the start as it is such an important facility for the local community. Visitors to the town have also been helped by staff and volunteers with queries on local attractions, accommodation, fishing licenses, walking and cycle routes. Other services such as theatre tickets will be available soon.

The Tourist Information Service is open Monday to Saturday 10:00-4:00.

The Museum worked closely with the staff of the former Tourist Information Centre throughout the past couple of months, one of whom volunteered to help at the Museum in the first few weeks, which was very much appreciated.

Andrea Rowe, Chairman of the Tiverton Museum  said, “Visitors are telling us that they have found us easily and that our purpose-built customer facility for booking tickets is quiet and confidential.”

The Tourist Information Service looks forward to exploring opportunities to promote Tiverton and Mid Devon more widely as a visitor destination in the future, as well as continuing to deliver an important service to the local community.

Tiverton Museum has also been recently shortlisted as a finalist for the Devon Tourism Awards 2013 in the category “Small Visitor Attraction of the Year”. The awards will be given at a ceremony at the Grand Hotel, Torquay on 13 November.
