Mid Devon’s Cabinet formally endorses devolution negotiations

Posted on: 7 July 2016

With Cabinet voting today (7 July) to endorse the concept of a Non-Mayoral Combined Authority across the Heart of the South West area, Mid Devon is one of the first of the local authorities in the partnership to formally outline their support for entering into discussions with Central Government.

Commenting on the decision, Clive Eginton, Leader of the Council, said “This is an opportunity for our area to open up official channels with government to see what devolution could look and feel like for Mid Devon. Obviously we don’t yet know what the outcome of negotiations will be, and whether the terms are good enough at the end of that conversation is something that will have to come back to the Council for a decision in due course, but this has the potential to be a very exciting time for the future of effective local decision-making and delivery of public services.
