Mid Devon Local Action Group – Have Your Say!
Posted on: 1 July 2014
REALDevon (Rural Enterprise And local Livelihoods) invite comments from local people
A series of consultation events are being held to help inform a bid for European funding for rural areas from 2015-2020. This is being developed by the new Mid Devon area Local Action Group (LAG) ‘REALDevon’. Devon County Council, on behalf of Mid Devon District, is inviting people from communities and a wide range of organisations to participate and share their views on the importance of funding for projects in the area.
Councillor Peter Hare-Scott, Leader of Mid Devon DC, said, “This is an important time for individuals, businesses and organisations to ‘Have their Say’ and help us to identify and invest in future projects that will support our rural economy between 2015 and 2020 . We are keen to make an informed and strong bid to DEFRA in order to maximise our chances of obtaining a share of the potential £140 million budget that England has been allocated and that will be distributed to successful Local Action Groups.”
If REALDevon’s bid to Defra is successful the funding programme will start in January 2015 and offer grants to businesses and communities with a focus on economic benefits.
If you are interested in influencing the REALDevon programme or you are seeking ways to raise funds for a specific project, full details of the events are available on the LAG’s website: www.realdevon.org. There is also an online survey to complete if you are unable to attend an event.
Tickets for the consultation events are also bookable via http://www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/devon-county-council-1265620761?s=26141499 or by telephone on 01392 382609 or by e-mail to email@example.com

Notes for Editors
New funding for the area
Devon County Council is working with Mid-Devon DC to develop a bid for a new Local Action Group, primarily covering Mid Devon parishes, with a small number in East Devon. You may be aware of the Local Action Group (LAG) concept, as there are already 4 of these groups in Devon delivering funding to rural communities and businesses through the previous EU LEADER funding programme which ran to December 2013. Devon LAG allocations ranged from around £1-3m in Devon, making a significant contribution to their local areas.
The LAGs are currently working on bids to be submitted to Defra in early September for funding allocations to distribute from Jan 2015-2020. Defra have supported the development of new LAGs to cover rural areas previously not included. The proposed REAL Devon (Rural Enterprise And local Livelihoods) LAG is to cover the areas and communities shown on the map below:
