What’s your child doing on social media?
Posted on: 13 September 2013
Why do our children want to spend so much time talking to friends online, when sometimes it seems we can barely get a word from them?
For many parents social media is a bit of a grey area. Like it or not, social media is here to stay and this is the modern method of communicating and socialising for many young people – and they start very young!
Recent publicity around online bullying, blackmail and the circulation of inappropriate comments and pictures has raised concerns about security and safety. To help ensure your child is safe online there are many helpful websites and pages that can offer lots of practical support and advice.
The thinkuknow website at www.thinkuknow.co.uk contains useful information for parents, young people and professionals who may need ideas and support. The Parents Guide to Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook and Google can be found at www.connectsafely.org/guides-2/
The Parents & Carers Guide to the Internet is an informative 25-minute film that gives great insight to what parents need to consider, how to set boundaries and the best ways of engaging with our children. This is available on the CEOP thinkuknow website. As they suggest – grab a cuppa and sit back to learn more! Go to www.thinkuknow.co.uk/parents/ parentsguide and click on the full film.Posted in: Community | Leisure
