Masterplan for NW Cullompton urban extension

Cullompton residents and other interested parties have a second opportunity to comment on the emerging Masterplan for the north west of the town. The area is allocated in Mid Devon’s Local Plan for mixed housing and employment development which incorporates green infrastructure as well as community facilities. A masterplan acts as a blueprint for the development of an area setting out principles for the way in which it will come forward, coordinating policy and infrastructure requirements to help achieve high quality design and a successful place, and will be a material consideration in the determination of planning applications. Although a masterplan helps to set out a more detailed framework and/or policies in support of those contained in a Local Plan, it is important to understand that a masterplan does not contain the same level of detail and supporting documentation that would be expected at a planning application stage. They often relate to large strategically important sites that are to be delivered in phases over a long time period, so will need to be flexible to be able to respond to changing circumstances.
Since the initial consultation last year, officers and the promoters’ design team have considered representations submitted and have taken them into account to produce a draft masterplan which is now available for consultation 20th August – 1st October 2015. This is the second opportunity for residents and other interested parties to have their say.
Richard Chesterton, Cabinet Member for Planning and Economic Regeneration, said: “We really want to get people’s opinions on this development proposal, which includes housing, an employment area, a primary school, and community facilities. Importantly, this development will also deliver a new road that will link Willand Road with Tiverton Road to the benefit of Cullompton. This is the second opportunity people have to comment on this Masterplan to help influence development taking place in their town.”
The consultation material will be available on the website at https://new.middevon.gov.uk/residents/planning-policy/masterplanning/ northwest-cullompton/ , at the Council’s main office at the Phoenix House reception in Tiverton, Cullompton Town Hall, and at the Hayridge Library in Cullompton. Public exhibitions for residents to learn more are being held at Cullompton Town Hall:
- 27 Aug (Thursday): 2pm – 6pm
- 12 Sept (Saturday): 9am – 1pm
- 24 Sept (Thursday): 10am – 2pm
