Have Your Say on Master Plan for NW Cullompton Urban Extension

Posted on: 23 October 2014

Cullompton residents could help to choose the design and layout of a new development planned for the area to the north west of the town.

The area, to the north west of Cullompton, is allocated in Mid Devon’s Development Plan for mixed housing and employment development. The plans incorporate green infrastructure as well as community facilities. Green infrastructure is open space with multiple environmental benefits, and is suitable for various uses such as sports facilities, allotments and wildlife habitats.

Emerging key issues that the masterplan will need to address include the amount and location of development within the site in relation to the amount and location of green infrastructure, road access into and through the site, the location and amount of employment land, and the location of sports pitches, the proposed primary school and gypsy and traveller pitches. Options for these are suggested. Design teams representing the promoters of the site have put forward proposals for the Council to consider and consult upon. The Council is now asking residents for their views and ideas.

Richard Chesterton, Cabinet Member for Planning and Economic Regeneration, said: “We really want to get people’s opinions on this development proposal, which includes housing, an employment area, a primary school, and community facilities.

“Possible options have been put forward for development and I would urge anybody in the community to come and have their say on the development taking place in their town. You can view the consultation material online, at the council offices, in Cullompton, or come along to one of our public exhibitions.”

The consultation material is available on the website at www.middevon.gov.uk/masterplanning and at the Council’s main office at the Phoenix House reception, Tiverton, Cullompton Town Hall, and at the Hayridge Library in Cullompton. Public exhibitions for residents to learn more are being held at the Hayridge Library Cullompton:

  • 13 Sept (Saturday) : 9am – 1pm
  • 24 Sept (Wednesday) : 3pm – 7pm
