Flying the flag for the Commonwealth

Posted on: 2 March 2015

To celebrate Commonwealth Day on 9 March, the Chairman of the Council will be raising the Commonwealth Flag outside Phoenix House in Tiverton at 10am in line with all other local authorities across the country.

The event is being described as “the perfect time to celebrate the true value of the Commonwealth as an increasingly multi-cultural world seeks unity, understanding and tolerance”. The intention is for hundreds of Commonwealth flags to be flown in significant, strategic and eye-catching locations across the UK and, indeed across the Commonwealth.

Chairman of the Council, John Berry says: “We are proud to be part of this initiative which has caught the imagination of thousands. It will hopefully highlight the importance of the Commonwealth and all that it stands for. People throughout the Commonwealth will be able to join together in widespread appreciation and I extend a warm welcome to the local community to join us as we raise the flag at Phoenix House on 9 March.”
