Local elections

The candidate nomination period for the district, town and parish council elections scheduled for 2 May has now finished.

To find out who’s been nominated and will stand for election, see the following Statements of Persons Nominated:

For areas where an equal or fewer number of candidates have been nominated than there are seats up for election, a poll will not be held and the candidates will be elected uncontested.  For a full list of candidates in uncontested areas, see the following uncontested election results:

As a result of the uncontested elections, there will be no polls on 2 May in the following areas:

  • Down St Mary
  • Nymet Rowland
  • Wembworthy
  • Zeal Monachorum

The verification of votes will take place from 10:00pm on Thursday, 2 May, followed by the count from 9:30am on Friday, 3 May at the district council offices, at Phoenix House, Tiverton.  The results for the various wards and parishes will be declared throughout the day.

Follow the hashtag #MidDevonVotes throughout the day on Friday, 3 May to see the results come in.

European Parliamentary elections

The European Parliamentary elections are currently scheduled to take place in the UK on 23 May.

Mid Devon forms part of the South West electoral region along with the Isles of Scilly and Gibraltar, and is represented by six Members of the European Parliament (MEPs).  If the election is contested, the poll scheduled for Thursday, 23 May will go ahead.

To be able to vote in these elections, voters must be registered to vote by midnight on Tuesday, 7 May, go to GOV.UK/register-to-vote.

The polling stations for this election will be the same as those used for the local elections on 2 May, except for the following four areas:

  • Church Rooms, Hemyock (instead of Parish Hall)
  • Room at The Fisherman’s Cot, Bickleigh (instead of the Village Hall)
  • Magelake Hall, Uffculme (instead of the Village Hall)
  • Culm Valley Leisure Centre, Cullompton (instead of Cullompton Community Centre)

Specific information on polling stations will be made available for voters on their poll cards, which will be sent around 23 April .

Any voters who are going to be away on 23 May, or would simply prefer to vote by post will need to apply and should contact the council’s Electoral Services team via 01884 255255 or email elections@midevon.gov.uk  The deadlines for applying for a postal or proxy vote are 8 and 15 May (respectively).
