Council signs up to pensioners’ dignity code

Posted on: 19 July 2013

At a meeting of Full Council earlier this month, the Council voted to support the National Pensioners Convention (NPC) Dignity Code and agreed to become a signatory.

The purpose of the Dignity Code is to uphold the rights and maintain the personal dignity of older people, within the context of ensuring the health, safety and well being of those who are increasingly less able to care for themselves or to properly conduct their affairs.

Councillor Jenny Roach, who put forward to motion to support the Dignity Code at the meeting of Full Council on 3 July, said “The Council agreed to accept the code with a unanimous vote, thus clearly showing that every member in the chamber supported the very important principles in the code”.
