Council housing development achieves award

Posted on: 2 October 2015

Our housing scheme at Fir Close in Willand was recently nominated for Best Rural Development in Devon. This award takes into account the standard of design and engagement with the local community. The Fir Close scheme was completed in February this year and delivered six brand new affordable homes for people with a local connection to the village.

The judges commented on how well the development overcame a small, confined area, how well it blends with existing buildings and that the properties are designed to good environmental standards using air source heat pumps. The judges were also impressed by the option to have solar panels in the future and that the homes are built to Lifetime Home standard.

The Council continues to focus on providing more affordable housing within Mid Devon.   As reported in the September edition, the scheme at St Andrew Street in Tiverton has provided 14 refurbished units available for rent. There are other developments in the pipeline.
