Confess Your Food Waste Secrets to Win a Smart Fridge Camera
Posted on: 5 September 2018
The war on food waste has a new weapon, and you could be in with a chance of winning one!
Devon residents can confess their guilty food waste secrets to Recycle Devon to be entered in to a prize draw to win a Smarter FridgeCam worth £150.
It’s the world’s first wireless fridge camera that can fit inside any refrigerator. The handy gadget is aimed at helping households cut their food waste by being able to check exactly what they have in their fridge at anytime from anywhere via an app.
The average household wastes a whopping £700 worth of food every year, which adds up to a shocking 7.3million tonnes of food thrown away in the UK annually. In Devon, food makes up approximately 30 per cent of black bin or bag rubbish, which is then sent for disposal.
FridgeCam’s innovative food tracking capabilities monitor use-by dates so you can know what’s going off wherever you are. Its object recognition technology helps you keep an inventory of what you’ve got in stock and sends out automatic top-up reminders to buy things as you run out.
Councillor Clive Eginton, Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Environment said:
“Last year Mid Devon residents recycled nearly two and half thousand tonnes of food waste, diverting this amount of waste from landfill is an amazing achievement. Many people have a guilty food waste secret and any scheme or awareness campaign that helps us to reduce food waste has my support.”
Update 19 September:
The competition was held by Recycle Devon and the prize draw will took place on Monday 17 September.Posted in: Environment
