Boxing Club is knocked out!
Posted on: 15 July 2013
The club, which has been operating from different venues in the West Exe area of Tiverton, now has its own gym at Heathcoat Social Club in Wellbrook Street.
Head Coach Paul Harvey explains: “One of the problems we’ve always faced is that we’ve never had enough space for a proper boxing ring. When we moved to Heathcoat Social Club earlier this year, we had the space but not the £3,000 needed to buy a ring, so we contacted the Council’s Grants Officer for advice. He helped us with a number of grant applications, all of which were successful, and in no time at all we had enough funds for the ring, which now has pride of place in the gym. It’s going to make a great difference to all the kids who come to the club to train and hopefully we can produce more champions like Corey Westbrook, who is the current Devon, Dorset and Cornwall Junior ABA Champion”.
The club runs training sessions from 7-9pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays and 10-12 on Sunday mornings. All equipment is provided by the club and each session costs just £2.50. The club will continue to run during the summer, so if you’re interested in trying out boxing as a way of keeping fit or boxing competitively, contact Paul on 01884 256282 or email firstname.lastname@example.org or just turn up at the club at the start of one of the training sessions.Posted in: Community | Leisure
