A neighbourhood plan for Tiverton and Halberton

Posted on: 4 August 2015

Earlier this year Tiverton Town Council applied in agreement with Halberton Parish Council to designate the parishes of Tiverton and Halberton as an area for a Neighbourhood Plan. This was the fourth application Mid Devon District Council received for a neighbourhood planning designation and the first covering two Parishes since the Localism Act (2011) gave local communities the power to produce plans for their own areas. The proposed boundary was consulted on 15th May – 26th June for six weeks. Representations received have been considered and the decision was made by Mid Devon District Council on 28th July to approve the Tiverton and Halberton parishes as an area for a Neighbourhood Plan. The relevant designation information can be viewed at: https://new.middevon.gov.uk/residents/planning-policy/neighbourhood-planning/tiverton-and-halberton-neighbourhood-plan/

Tiverton Town Council is leading the Tiverton and Halberton neighbourhood plan and will hold future consultations regarding the emerging proposals of the plan. A neighbourhood plan is a community-led framework for guiding the future development and growth of an area. It must conform to the strategic policies of the Mid Devon Local Plan, national planning policy and human rights legislation. Neighbourhood plans are also subject to public examination and referendum.
