The future of Cullompton Railway Station

Posted on: 15 July 2016

Mid Devon District Council has announced it is investing £40k in the investigation of seeing a new railway station at Cullompton. Announcing the news this morning at a meeting of the Devon & Somerset Metro project group, Deputy Leader of Mid Devon, Richard Chesterton, said ‘I am pleased to confirm Mid Devon’s support for this work and I hope that through this funding we will move another step closer to securing a new station serving the people of Cullompton and providing a step-change in connectivity for the growing community in the area. This funding will allow engineering design work to be commissioned that tests and proves the viability of our concept and which will allow us to continue our lobbying through the lengthy process of embedding this within future national railway plans.’

This funding matches a previous commitment by Taunton Deane Borough Council of £40k and, in addition, both Town Councils of Cullompton and Wellington have committed to contributing £10k each, providing the project with a £100k boost with which to push the work forward.
